Gil Mendo Mobility Grant results
In 2024, the Roberto Cimetta Fund, with the support of DG Arts – Portuguese Ministry of Culture and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, paid a sincere tribute to Gil Mendo by launching a specific mobility grant programme targeting Portugal and non-EU Mediterranean countries. Gil Mendo was a founding member of the Roberto Cimetta Fund, and his vision and legacy contributed to promoting and creating the best conditions for artists, dance and the performing arts, side by side with all other artistic forms, to thrive and collaborate across borders.
The Gil Mendo Mobility Grant (GMMG) was launched in mid-2024 with an open call for proposals and its selection process has just successfully concluded. 44 diverse applications were received, from a wide range of age groups, genders, disciplines and countries, all aimed at fostering cultural mobility and collaborations as well as historical and contemporary connections between Portugal and the Mediterranean basin.
The GMMG attracted interest from a broad spectrum of professionals, including dance artists and researchers, cultural operators and managers, filmmakers, musicians, photographers, and designers, all keen to engage with dance in a holistic and interdisciplinary way.
After a careful selection process by an independent panel of experts from the dance and performing arts sector in Portugal and the Mediterranean region, 14 high-quality proposals were chosen to bring mobility projects to life between December 2024 and June 2025. Portuguese grantees will explore countries such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Egypt, Morocco, North Macedonia and Turkey. Grant holders coming from Egypt, Morocco, Palestine, Tunisia and Turkey, will immerse themselves in the dance and artistic scenes of Porto and Lisbon. .
Their initiatives will foster relationship-building, networking, and partnerships, while also exploring co-creation and co-production opportunities. The grants will support participation in artistic residencies and research, professional project development, and artistic advancement through participation and conduction of workshops, masterclasses, exchanges, and study trips.
We thank all applicants for their proposals and commitment to cultural mobility and exchange. We wish the grantees success in their mobility projects, strengthening their research and opening new avenues for their professional path!
