Statement on the current situation in Turkey

5th July 2013

At this moment, when in several countries around the Mediterranean people’s basic rights to associate, protest, and be fully represented are systematically oppressed, the Roberto Cimetta Fund stands firmly in support of our fellow artists and citizens in these countries at the same time as we strongly condemn the use of brutal force against protesters in all “freedom” squares around the world.

Whether people are rising up against the hegemony of financial and political institutions, or demanding full democratic representation, or where the struggle for social and political justice continues, or where an illegal occupation persists for so many years, the Roberto Cimetta Fund, its Board of Directors, Committee of experts, staff, and grantees reiterate their firm support for the right to human dignity, political and social justice, and freedom of expression as inalienable rights that should be upheld and protected by and for the people.
